Nintex 2022 Partner of the Year Award for Business Excellence Winners

The Nintex Partner Awards recognize partners that consistently accelerate business outcomes and results for organizations across industries by leveraging the breadth and depth of the Nintex Process Platform to accelerate digital transformation and achieve process excellence goals.

We appreciate the recognition of bringing the Nintex Process Platform to new organizations. We're excited for the future as we continue developing our partnership with Nintex.

Our Solution with Nintex

Myriad Technologies has built their product S2IX (Secure Search and Information Exchange), which includes Nintex, specifically to work in the deployed space where connectivity is not always possible. S2IX consists of Nodes, which are designed to provide the entire capability of the product to a set of users, even if completely offline. When the Node regains connectivity the data and information in that Node are replicated around the Node Network. This means that capabilities such as process automation that previously would not function in this environment are now available. In a fully connected environment where emails are easily delivered and files seamlessly delivered, it is easy to overlook what these basic functions can achieve in providing information and decision support. S2IX coupled with Nintex, is allowing Military customers the ability to leverage the functionality that fully connected environments take for granted.

Managing the challenges of data replication

The S2IX platform combines advanced technologies, including the GeoReplicator from iOra, to ensure data superiority across challenging environments

Data repl.png

The rate that technology is advancing means that for firms to retain a competitive advantage in an increasingly globalised marketplace they must be ahead of the curve, rather than behind it. Data replication is the process of storing and maintaining data copies across multiple machines and parties. The data is stored in a cloud storage system through different data nodes, so that when users access data on a specific node it accesses a replication of the data present on a nearby node which improves data availability. Data replication creates simultaneous updates across numerous systems which helps to increase scalability however updates are general reliant on the connectivity of the device at the time. For firms that operate in remote, challenging, or disadvantaged areas this connectivity issue is a core concern for performance and consistency.

The implication of data replication is key to both scalability and fault-tolerance, which assists with elasticity however traditionally replication has come at a risk to either performance or consistency with most cases being a trade-off between the two.

S2IX 2.png

Myriad Technologies, after more than a decade of experience in deploying secure collaboration solutions, recognised the solution needed and designed the virtualised platform to specifically focus on secure information exchange in deployed scenarios through single, joint and coalition force missions sustained by architecture that is able to operate in the most challenging environments in the world.

S2IX approaches the challenges commonly encountered within global ICT programs using a unique combination of products and program delivery to solve the underlying technical and business challenges, ultimately delivering core support functions and capability to multiple systems. To solve communication issues, Myriad Technologies relied on experience gained working with the mining, oil and gas industries delivering integrated operations platforms into remote locations.

S2IX.png

The techniques employed with these customers and the Australian Defence Force utilised a specific architecture approach to the applications, and a replication tool called iOra GeoReplicator. The data specific capability is the ability to distribute and exchange this data between environments regardless of the communications bearer or network. The replication tooling tightly integrated into S2IX operates across any bearer including denied, degraded, intermittent and limited networks. iOra is the leading global provider of the portal and file-based compression and replication technology for organizations that need to operate in the most demanding environments.

iOra technology enables an intelligent, competent, and transparent data exchange that is consistent and guaranteed, irrespective of location or network connection. Trusted by Governments, corporates, military and global organizations, iOra technology has been selected for its proven capabilities in hostile and remote environments.  Tightly integrated into the S2IX platform, the iOra capabilities work in concert with the security and automation features to deliver federated operations across your global workforce.

The highly anticipated S2IX 6.1 is due to be released in early October and contains a host of new and revamped features to ensure that the end-user is continually enabled by the technology, to be at their most efficient. Recent changes to the iOra Geo-Replicator replication platform include the provision of the iOra class library that supports the more complete integration of iOra replication and management technology as an embedded service for a larger application or process.

Myriad technologies-303.jpg

“The latest release of iOra allows S2IX 6.1 to continue to expand and grow as a product to truly give us reach into data all the way out to the tactical edge”

- Nicholas Forbes, Managing Director of Myriad Technologies

Planned for Q4 2021 iOra will introduce the new file system replication capability that has been built on the updated and highly extensible iOra replication platform extension architecture. The new file system replication option will enable true bi-directional cross-domain replication between source and target folders.

By leveraging a COTS / MOTS platform through a raise and sustain activity with no-code configuration, rather than a design, build, test and refactor approach, S2IX offers a dramatically lower risk and cost profile of implementing and adopting the solution.

How to efficiently operate in tactical edge environments.

Nexium Defence Cloud Edge is a proven, secure mission-ready solution that enables joint force and coalition operations to operate effectively, in a disconnected environment at the tactical edge.

Today’s military requires supporting capabilities and solutions that allow them to rapidly react to emerging threats on the global stage. The vast variety of missions undertaken, and mission partners involved adds additional complexities and requirements including agility, interoperability, alignment to multiple security frameworks and the ability to operate in some of the most challenging environments across the globe.

Nexium Defence Cloud Edge from Thales is an innovative, integrated capability utilising sovereign Australian products and partners that delivers mission-ready technologies and tools. With integration provided by industry, the time to deliver and risk profile attached to large scale transformation projects is drastically reduced and provides greater value and benefit realisation.

Myriad Technologies is proud to play a crucial role in this consortium, providing the data fabric and automation capabilities available within S2IX.

“Myriad Technologies and S2IX are proud to play a major part in delivering a new world-class C4ISR capability in partnership with Thales. Our product delivers the data fabric capabilities for the Thales Nexium Combat Cloud platform.

S2IX was born and bred in the battlespace. Developed over 10+ years while supporting military  activities here in Australia and driving innovation in the way defence operates on a global scale.”

Perry Smith, Strategic Partner Manager, Myriad Technologies

S2IX is uniquely designed to allow organisations requiring strict adherence to security frameworks to exchange data across security boundaries and denied, disrupted, intermittent and limited environments. Being able to replicate data from any endpoint such as sensors and ISR data between environments for analysis and integrate it with other lines of business platforms such as battle management systems we provide the routing and exchange capabilities to provide information superiority and enhanced decision making. Security is applied to each object and data point, balancing the need to know with the need to share at all layers of command and control.

S2IX automation is extensive, beginning with the build of environments aligned to any defined profile required such as mission type, area of operation or single, joint and coalition forces use. These profiles, or schemas in S2IX parlance, template the entire environment including services, composite applications, LOB applications and security. This allows mission environments to be built and made available at mission speeds for any need. Automation capabilities are also available at the data layer – as data is ingested and exchanged, automation can be applied to enforce or automate business processes and notifications, reducing the cognitive load on users to identify anomalies and actionable intel.

Working together with Thales and Microsoft to bring this capability from Australia to a global stage is a major milestone for Myriad Technologies, combined with the recent announcement of being named a finalist in the 2021 Microsoft Partner of the Year awards and our ongoing engagement within the defence community globally.

Mitigating Reactive Technology in Times of Crisis

With Government restrictions and recommendations now in full effect, many organisations have now begun encouraging their staff to work from home. While this is a fantastic move for the economy and for keeping businesses open and staff in jobs, it poses a new plethora of risks and issues to the businesses involved.

Staff working from home often means a rise in shadow IT for organisations is imminent. Shadow IT happens when staff feel that there are systems missing that they require, and that their company’s IT department cannot support what users want. But this doesn’t have to be the case. We know that maintaining governance once staff are outside the office is difficult, particularly if the organisations staff do not really understand the businesses processes.  Often, when staff run into issues, they will attempt to fix these problems themselves; regardless of company governance and guidelines. Sometimes this may come from a lack of knowledge of the procedures, or sometimes it may come from a want within a staff member to be proactive and put their own fix in place. Either way, the more staff who put their own fixes in place, the more problems it causes long term for your business, and more specifically your IT department as the scope of which they need to cover, and fix grows rapidly.

While we know that shadow IT causes organisations the large issues of ungoverned and uncontrolled solutions being implemented for collaboration, information management and a multitude of other tasks, it is another thing entirely to know how best to reduce, and more hopefully stop it from happening. This is where we come in.

Here at Myriad, we are very familiar with organisations in this position. We have a proven track record of helping organisations maintain governance through:

  • Implementation of great controls within organisational systems such as Document Management Systems, SharePoint etc.

  • Deployment of monitoring programs to assist in monitoring and control of what employees are accessing.

  • Maintenance and control of business systems with ongoing desktop monitoring and support for your employees with our Myriad Services team.

We are backed by 14+ years of experience in helping businesses solve these challenges and are here and ready to discuss any questions or problems you may have or want to solve.

Planning, Managing and Mopping up from an Epidemic, Pandemic or Other Emergencies

From the perspective of integrated planning and management of a crisis event, COVID-19 has caught a great many government agencies and Defence forces with their pants down. Their technology and systems readiness have been acutely tested, and the approaches used by many government agencies to date have largely failed. The technology and organisational responses have been haphazard and to put it in the nicest possible way, disorganised.

This is really a crying shame as the time for planning and executing responses is well before the emergency is upon us. Many agencies have simply relied on traditional IT approaches to be able to function and operate during times of crisis, and these traditional solutions have fallen well short of the mark.

For Australia and the world, this year with the multiple crisis’ we have already faced such as bushfires, floods and COVID-19 has illustrated the definite need for IT systems to be able to support a broad range of ‘anything but normal’ conditions.

For unclassified workloads, Microsoft Office 365 and especially Teams©, SharePoint© and Microsoft Outlook© represent a powerful combination to address some of the challenges of dealing with emergency situations.

For classified workloads including restricted/protected, secret and top secret, the choices are far more limited. The great news is, if you need an advanced, Command and Control support system underpinned by a modern architecture, including advanced jump to search. Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) data management capabilities, then Secure Search and Information Exchange (S2IX) is an incredibly powerful and versatile, not to mention Defence tested and accredited platform that can solve a wide range of challenges, including;

  • Support for collaboration and planning at all levels, from strategic to tactical.

  • Mission management and execution support, across all areas of operations.

  • Data ingestion, aggregation, analysis and visualisation.

  • Highly secure data exchange across classification levels and security domains

  • Fully integrated business process management, including automation and orchestration.

  • Standard and advanced search of all data holdings.

  • Full support for Government grade information classifications of documents and data, including releasability, classification and caveat management.

Through modern containerised and virtualised methods, S2IX can support your mission, operation or inter-agency collaboration, both in an operational headquarters and also in theatre. Its unique architecture and approach to challenging networks (S2IX operates over any network, regardless of how good or bad the connection) allows S2IX to continue processing, on a ship, in a vehicle or in a data centre.

With their latest partner Blackned, S2IX can now also provide instant messaging and chat, click to voice and click to video on modern smartphones, automatically bridging your information back into S2IX platform to integrate all your data across the area of operation. We can harmonise any existing waveform you have and leverage that in a crypto-safe manner.

S2IX is available in cloud through the Azure marketplace and can be deployed in the Australian Central Data Center which is classified for up to protected for instances where government agencies require higher levels of data and information classification. S2IX is available in deployable cloud formats, including Azure Stack and Azure Databox Edge. For higher level classifications, S2IX functions on all modern hypervisors allowing deployments for secret and top-secret environments.

For more information, feel free to contact us or visit the S2IX website. We can arrange a full demonstration of managing an epidemic leveraging S2IX platform. This can be done remotely as an online session.

Crisis Communications with Microsoft

Crisis Management 1.PNG

In times of crisis, providing up to date, concise and timely communications to staff becomes a high priority to most organisations. Achieving this is not always as simple a task as we may think, especially with more and more staff working remotely and disconnected from the day to day of the office. Ensuring that all staff are notified and kept updated of what is important and ensuring critical updates from the business are seen and consumed by all is essential.  The messages can become disjointed and diluted when shared by word of mouth, and in a worst-case scenario completely missed by your staff.

Crisis Management 2.PNG

Recently Microsoft and a team of developers have created and released a Crisis Management Solution Template using the tools available in Office 365 in under 48 hours. Critical communications become available via a web browser (SharePoint Online), PowerApps and Teams allowes businesses and employees to rapidly and effectively communicate as any situation develops.

Employees can report whether they are working from home or out of the office and make requests to colleagues. This information is designed to help managers and central response teams to co-ordinate any action that’s needed.

Crisis%2BManagement%2B-%2BPowerApp%2B1.jpg

The solution also allows business to deliver communications via push notifications to mobile devices and provide information from external organisations via RSS feeds. Emergency contacts for specific locations can also be captured and shared out across your business.

In response to the current global crisis, Microsoft has made the Power Automate push notification action free for all users, meaning the solution can be deployed to any current Office 365 licensed organisation without incurring additional fees for using what was previously a premium feature.*

At Myriad we want to help you to be prepared and support you and your staff. We are available to assist in implementing this solution in your existing Office 365 platform, and work with internal teams to provide configuration, training and support of the features (or any combination of the above) to help you be in the best possible position.

To find out more information or discuss any plans you may have to move to the cloud, contact us for an obligation-free conversation today.

* Minimum licensing required is SharePoint online for web use. PowerApps and Power Automate required for mobile use.

Staying Connected in a Remote Working World

A traditional working space is something we are all familiar with – a company has a set location where it sets up office, which is filled with employees working from their own spaces within the office. The traditional working space for most organisations may also include meeting rooms and collaboration spaces for employees to be able to host meetings and work together as a team.

Over time, the idea of what constitutes as a working space for employees has changed, as has the technology to support it. The requirement for employees to work externally from the office has grown drastically in recent times with more people working remotely. This has presented a multitude of challenges for organisations, such as the ability to communicate and collaborate, manage staff and maintain business continuity over dispersed locations, where face-to-face communication methods are unavailable.

Microsoft Teams offers its users an advanced technological solution to these challenges, while being designed in a clear manner with user experience in mind. While there are many benefits to making the switch to teams, some of the main benefits we find our customers enjoying including:

  • Productivity gains and enriched communication

  • Better focus on your work

  • Increased transparency and collaboration

  • Seamless move to one of the foundations for a digital workplace

  • New team members can more quickly get up to speed

  • Enabling staff to work remotely

While these benefits alone will greatly improve the ability for companies to successfully have their employees work remotely while the running of the business remain business as usual, Microsoft makes the decision to move your organisation to Teams even easier. Microsoft Teams is available, license free, for up to 300 people within organisations. This means, that up to 300 of your staff can enjoy:

  • Unlimited chat messages and search

  • Built-in audio and video calling for individuals

  • Groups and full team meetups

  • Integration with the rest of the Office 365 suite

  • The ability to communicate and collaborate with anyone inside or outside your organisation

  • A secure platform backed by Microsoft’s global infrastructure.

Sounds like something that could make your world easier? Here at Myriad, we are ready to make your move to Teams even simpler. We are able to fully install and configure teams for your organisation, as well as help onboard your staff with one-on-one training and included reference guides for future questions. We have seen many organisations benefit from the move to Teams and would love to help you transition to this powerful communication tool.

How do you Deal with Being Disconnected?

Over the last few weeks, there have been some massive changes in our world. With the Government encouraging organisations to have their staff work from home, combined with the recent closure of many workplaces, this is causing a strain on residential networks. For many households, bandwidth is starting to become a rarity.

OneDrive.PNG

The good news is that service providers are trying to combat this issue with free extra data being provided on many services, including mobile devices (you can find all telecommunication companies assistance packages here). While these measures are helping a little, the more people that are working from home increases the unreliability of both fixed and mobile connections.

For those who are trying to work from home during the day, this bandwidth issue is starting to become painful, and has the potential to get worse. The good news is, loss of bandwidth does not have to mean inability to work. The question at this point is, how can we continue to access business data and information without a stable and reliable connection?

OneDrive 2.jpg

There are several services available that will allow you to take content offline for when you don’t have a stable connection, and it will sync back up to the cloud when network becomes available again. A great set of systems available to business customers that will help employees have this happen automatically are SharePoint Online and OneDrive. Taking this a step further, combining these with tools such as Nintex will also allow organisations to take their forms and workflow tasks offline. We also highly recommend the use of Microsoft Teams to keep businesses connected during the times of intermittent network issues.

Here at Myriad, we have a multitude of SME’s who are ready and able to help you move to the cloud, making your documents available from any location, both while your connected or disconnected. Some of the ways we can help includes:

  • Migrating your data to the cloud.

  • Creating a structure in SharePoint for your data, and help you move from other file shares to SharePoint.

  • Training your employees on how to use OneDrive, including how to synchronise documents to your desktop.

  • Helping establish good governance and policies for managing data when remote working.

  • Onboarding and training of your staff on how to best use Microsoft Teams for online meetings.

Myriad Technologies at Military Communications and Information Systems Conference 2019

This year’s Military Communications and Information Systems (MilCIS) conference is fast approaching, with only four weeks to go until this annual event. Last year was the conferences largest year to date, with over 94 companies exhibiting, and we are expecting this year to be bigger and better than ever!

The draft program for MilCIS 2019 has now been published, so now we can announce – in more detail – what you can expect from Myriad Technologies at this year’s conference.

As always, you can find us in the exhibition hall, so if you are attending the event, come along to booths three and four to say hi! We also have three speaking slots, with our product brief and one tutorial taking place on day one (Tuesday 12th November 2019), and our second tutorial taking place on day two (Wednesday 13th November 2019) of the conference. Below are the details for each of our presentations, including summaries.

Tuesday, 12th November

2.30pm: Session 1.6d

Product Brief: Taking S2IX from the Cloud to the Tactical Edge

Presenter: Mr Perry Smith, Strategic Partner Manager

Summary:

Revolutionary advances in cloud capabilities has allowed S2IX to be deployed in a deployable cloud that can be extended from the core data centre out to the tactical edge – and back! During this update, we will cover how we use S2IX to empower digital transformation in Defence organisations using Azure, Azure Stack and Azure Data Box. The Azure platform and services enables the application of Cognitive Services and Machine Learning to data collected anywhere from the core to the tactical edge. Utilizing Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to automatically identify and tag content can dramatically decrease the time to share time sensitive information throughout the network.

By incorporating advanced deployable techniques and tools, the same platform can underpin multiple key business imperatives, including Federated Mission Networking, government-to-government information exchange.

Combining this technology with products like Mediaflux has also allowed us to perform data analysis on the tactical edge and flow the results back through to primary networks without placing undue burden on those networks. Mediaflux enables the collection and analysis of high definition video from various sources at the edge of the network. The ability to collect, classify and analyse data at the edge is a true game changer in the deployed environment.

Finally, we will demonstrate how to support services down to single soldier. Technology from Blackned, a leading German armed forces provider is directly interconnected to S2IX to provide end point services.

5.00pm: Session 1.8f

Tutorial: Interoperable Mission Capability Using Cloud Services

Presenter: Mr Perry Smith, Strategic Partner Manager

Summary:

Securely sharing and exchanging information from headquarters out to the tactical edge is a critical element of information superiority. Enabling coalition forces to securely share and exchange time sensitive information within a federated partnering environment will dramatically increase the C2 function within any joint operation. Modern cloud services can be rapidly deployed to support each phase of mission planning through to mission execution and after action reporting. Cloud services provide unlimited compute and storage on demand at the click of a button. This capacity and flexibility dramatically change mission planning and execution in the modern theatre with deployable private clouds.

Wednesday, 13th November

1.30pm: Session 2.5f

Tutorial: Gathering Insights from the Tactical Edge

Presenter: Mr Nathan Pearce, National Sales Manager

Summary:

Supporting command and control from the core to the tactical edge is a challenging problem space, which is complicated by many moving parts and intermittent communication links. The tactical edge holds a treasure trove of time sensitive information, which is only of value if it can be seen and actioned by command and the rest of the elements within the network. During this tutorial we will explore the challenges associated with gathering and distributing mission critical information and insights from the tactical edge and bringing these back to the core to support mission management. Also as part of this tutorial, we will cover lessons from the tactical edge and how you can gather and analyse lessons from previous missions and deployments. These insights can be used to gain significant Operational efficiencies throughout the deployed network and for future operations.

MilCIS 2019 will be taking place over November 12-14 2019 at the National Convention Centre in Canberra. The aim of the conference is to facilitate a continuing dialogue between Department of Defence employees, contractors (like us), industry and researchers to discuss current and developing technological capabilities, project initiatives and operational requirements.

For more information on our dialogue with these personnel, and how we can help you, contact us today.

Myriad Technologies Attending Pacific Endeavour 2019

Members and delegates of the United States Indo-Pacific Command, more commonly known as INDOPACOM recently touched down in Papua New Guinea in preparation of its annual Pacific Endeavour Exercise (PE19). This exercise has been running for five years now, and gives the members and delegates of INDOPACOM the opportunity to gain as close to real world experience as they can through the replication of High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR) events. PE19 is INDOPACOM’s capstone event in this series, and is simulating a Tsunami.

At the conclusion of PE19, there is a day of technology demos, which this year will be taking place on Thursday 16th August 2019, where companies from around the world are invited to Papua New Guinea to present. Myriad Technologies is proud to announce that they have been invited to display at the technology demo at PE19 alongside large global organisations such as Dell, AT&T and Microsoft.

Myriad Technologies directors Perry Smith and James Milne will be touching down in Port Moresby next Wednesday in preparation for our tech demo on Thursday, where they will be demonstrating the S2IX platform. As an enterprise-grade information management system built on SharePoint, S2IX is well suited to keeping INDOPACOM connected more than ever before during HADR events with self-contained, connecting synchronising nodes. Particularly at the end of the PE19 exercise, the presentation of S2IX will show members and delegates of INDOPACOM that the distribution, sharing and collaboration of data during a HADR event is not only possible, but can work smoothly with S2IX.

Microsoft releases Office 2019 for Windows and Mac users

In late September Microsoft released Office 2019 for both Windows 10 and Mac users.

The catch, for now, is that it's only available to volume licensing customers; meaning Office 2019 is only available to organisations licensing the software for five or more individuals.

According to Microsoft's Office and Windows marketing corporate vice president Jared Spataro, the product is expected to become available to all other consumers sometime in October or November.

Some of the benefits in the update include, for Window's users, access to new apps including Access, Project, Publisher and Visio. Users installing Office 2019 for the first time on a Windows platform will receive OneNote for Windows 10 by default, in lieu of the desktop version of the app (OneNote 2016).

Further benefits include new IT value for "enhanced security and streamlined administration". In 2013, Microsoft introduced Click-to-Run (C2R), a technology which deploys and updates Office across hundreds of millions of devices globally.

With Office 2019, Microsoft is moving the on-premises versions of Office to C2R to both improve security and reduce costs. Advantages of C2R include "predictable monthly security updates, up-to-date apps on installation, reduced network consumption through Windows 10 download optimisation technology, and an easy upgrade path to Office 365 ProPlus".

For more in depth information as to exact changes, visit the Microsoft website here.
