In August, SharePoint began rolling out the new site theming experience to First Release customers, which was previewed at the Virtual Summit back in May.
Themes exist to give SharePoint users an opportunity to tailor their site to suit their organisation, or team. The concept isn't new – themes were introduced in an earlier version of SharePoint – but the August changes brought in a simplified customisation process.
Specifically, the themes user interface was redesigned and there is a set of new file formats related to themes. Theming can be accessed via the Change the look wizard (gear icon in the upper right) in which the site administrator, or a user with permissions, can pick a preinstalled theme, customise it, and ultimately Save.
Features able to be customised include layout, background, colour palette, and font scheme.
It's a straightforward process, but for further explanation and ever-helpful screenshot examples, go to the Microsoft Office Support site.
